1. Clean And Optimize Your Windows Registry:
Your pc windows registry is where much of information about programs and applications on your computer is stored. As you install programs and applications entries are made in your system’s registry. Over time errors and inconsistencies (corruption) build up and the registry becomes bloated an un-optimized. In that state it becomes extremely difficult for programs and applications to reference the relevant data they need to function fast. This makes your computer to run extremely slow and freeze intermittently. In worst cases you could end up with the blue screen of death. An essential part of your regular maintenance to make your computer run faster is to regularly clean and optimize your computer with a registry cleaner. Do this, even if you do nothing else, and you will instantly see a remarkable improvement in the speed and performance of you pc.
Tip: Regcure offers a free scan to check your system’s registry with an option to fix errors and corruption that slows down pc performance.
2. Get Rid Of Spyware And Adware:
Spyware and adware can cause a whole lot of problems including corruption and errors in your systems registry - resulting in pc slow down. Other malicious programs, if resident in you computer, can form part of the processes running silently in the background draining system resources. Finding and eliminating them will without a doubt speed up your slow running computer. If you don’t have an antispyware installed now is the time to get one. Run a thorough scan and eliminate malwares. There are lots of reliable antispyware programs around that can get the job done - including the award winning XoftSpySE Antispyware.
3. Free Up Memory Space:
Many pc users literarily turn their pc into a store house, saving all sorts - from software to files which we use once and never go back to. The amount of free memory available for programs and applications to load and execute have a huge impact on how slow or fast you pc runs. To speed up your slow running computer by a few points, remove all those unnecessary programs and files sitting on your computer.
4. Turn Off Unnecessary Processes Running In The Background:
Get familiar with the processes running on your pc at start up and during normal operation. Too many processes loading and running in the background drains system resources and cause problems including - slow pc start up and slow pc performance. Turn off all unnecessary processes and you will improve the speed of your computer significantly. Access the list of processes running on you computer from the start menu - run and type MSCONFIG and press enter. Go to startup and un-check items you don’t have need for when you start up your pc - click on apply and reboot your system.
Tip: Regcure registry cleaner and optimizer has this nifty feature that enables you to view start up programs and choose which applications are launched when you start your computer. Simple and cool. Download and check it out.
5. Defragment Your Disk Drive:
You can access the disk defragmenter by clicking on start menu - all programs - accessories - system tools. As a rule of thumb, you should defragment your disk drive once in a month. Defragmentation re-arranges fragmented (scattered) files stored on your disk drive. This increases the speed at which your pc accesses files. It does take a long time to complete; this is why I have included it as the last item on the list.
